I think it's just a different type of laser. I'm not sure though, so don't quote me on that.

I thought it was the same, and it just focuses on the different layers... the same way you read the discs with a normal laser?

Hm... I guess it couldn't be any stronger, per say, because that would in theory burn through the first layer to get to the second.
