I like playing YDKJ, but I hate having to always use the keyboard.
And I also dislike all the ideas other people have, because they are just cheap single-button hand buzzers hooked to encoder boxes.
Mine, however, would feature a buzzer button and four buttons for the four number keys used. Essentially, the same concept used for such console-based quiz games like Mega Quiz and Scene It! Lights, Camera Action!.
I was thinking either:
A) Creating custom ones with Polycase cases and bits and pieces from Radio Shack
B) Getting some of the buzzers used for Mega Quiz or Scene It, gutting them, and essentially doing the same as the top one.
They would be wired, though. On the other end would be a modified keyboard inside an enclosed box with a generic USB gamepad encoder chip and a USB hub. And then use a keyboard emulator (I have JoyToKey) to make the computer that the buttons on the buzzers are keystrokes (i.e. the buzz-in key for player 1's buzzer would be the "B" key, the keyboard emulator uses Button1 as the "B" key).
I'm probably talking gibberish, but something happened on the path from my brain to my keyboard.
Concept for custom You Don't Know Jack buzzers

Although, the one setup on Arcade Paradise seems pretty okay.
So now, I'm currently deciding between:
A) My original concept for handheld buzzers
B) Slightly bigger, though too big for handheld-size, buzzers. Roughly the size of two Genesis game cases on top of each other (vertically, obviously)
C) The one from AP.org, albeit altered.
And with the handheld ones, I was thinking of 4 mini buttons (like the ones used for the buzzers on the AP one) for the 1-4 buttons, and have an competition pushbutton (from Happ Controls) for the buzzer button.
And with the second one, use 4 competition pushbuttons for the 1-4 buttons and mega button for the buzzer button.
And if I do the AP one, the only thing I'd change is replace the pushbuttons used for the 1-4 buttons and possibly the screw button with the mega buttons, and instead of the small buttons used for the buzzers, replace the with competition pushbuttons.
