Xbox 360 question

Post by Shadeslayer »

My 360's disk drive just quit on me. I called up Microsoft and they set me through a series of tests. They say that my disk drive is good as gone.

They gave me the options of either:

A)Send it in for 99 US dollars and they will either fix it or send me a new one (My warranty expired in May).

B)or Don't send it in and just keep it.

Now Does an xbox 360 just take a DVD drive? Could I just buy a new drive and put it in its place? Are there any more options?

Thanks

Only for the RROD. You could give it the RROD (provided you haven't voided the warranty), I think you can just wrap it in a towel and overheat it. Other DVD drives will work, I saw something about it the other day (no idea where...).

Yeah, I'd say just giving it the RROD is the best way to go. It's stupid that they won't replace a factory defect like that, so seeing as they cover the dreaded ring for much longer than any other product ailment, just overheat it. Again, like vskid said, just wrap it up in a couple of bath towels and run it until it craps out on you. Good luck!

you need to get some key from your drive and use it on the one you buy. I have an extra drive if you want to buy it. It is a samsung http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=22923
I forget exactly because I havn't messed with that stuff in awhile. you should do a little research first, hitachis are really easy to mod/switch and samungs are a little more difficult

I would just pay ms if I remember the drives are fairly expensive and you will need a certain setup that you may or may not already have, to mess with the samsungs (if you have one)

or inflict the rrod :P maybe try just jamming a screw driver around in there or banging it up a bit to loosen something(probably shouldn't do this)

here is one for 40 + 20 ship but with no bids yet here
