OK, besides the fact that there are already dreamcast laptop threads out there, yes i know about the amazing search function... i was wondering if i could get more definate answers:
1) first and most important one... kinda
I need a working Battery supply... i want this thing truely portable.

The people in the thread i got that from seemed to think it might
work, if so can i make it removable easily? so i can recharge it
seperately? only problem is to get the PSU (microatx or something)

2) this one should be easier, this has been asked many a times so i expect a
simple answer. GD-ROM i wanna replace it... normal cd drives
work from my understanding... anyone got an example so i can be
sure i buy the right kind? just a normal cd-r? cd burner? kinda deal?
something like a cd player for anti skip? can a laptop cdrom have
non-skipish kinda stuff?
3) Big number 3, screens... there was some talk about this but nothing
really definate. any good examples or things that will work. my
understanding is laptop screens don't, soo what does? i did find
some things on screens... would just a small LCD TV work?
dreamcast can be vga last time i checked... so LCD monitor? maybe
something like 15 inches? or would it have to be smaller? 7 inches?
4)it was mentioned that fans were not needed, ok not needed... is that
really true? i mean no need to put 50 fans in there but wouldn't one
be a major help? or not really?
5) i think last but not least (i could easily be wrong) would be the case...
its not like it has to be anything special right? slap some good metal
together or something? i mean i would like a great case but does it
have to be acrylic? nice metal structure would be enough? too much
heat retention? acrylic wouldn't be too hard to do... i wouldn't make it
all awesome vac stuff or anything but well cut and put together acryllic
would go nice right? thoughts on this?
FOR THE RECORD: It is not necissary to put a keyboard in there but it would be nice. My dreamcast claims to support Windows CE sooo it could see use for it, but its not necissary... also i know nothing of this windows CE.

for the case i think i will just buy some nicish acrylic sheets or something and cut it all up and put it together... no vac cases.
as for a monitor i am thinking of using a small tv thats stand is removed and just hooked up with the normal cable on the back, 10 inch maybe?
anyone know if i can take LCD tvs and led them or something to reduce power consumption? or should i not bother, and get something else?

1-For the batteries: I actaully found that lithium 11.1v 2600mAh batteries running the dreamcast with a picopsu 120wats (could be 80 too) makes it run for 75 minutes with a non-modded psone screen, so maybe even longer with a psone screen modded with leds, I took my battery out of a portable dvd player and it's slightly bigger than a AA battery and as long as the dc case.
2-If you wanna paly originals OR if you aren't a NASA hardware conceptor, don't put a cd-rom assembly there, it would be a pain in the a** and will not save that musch space. FORGET about a HDD (just in case you though 'bout it).
3-A psone screen works well, some pocket tvs too, read benheck's book to fing out 'bout this. portable pc screen are often hard to use.
4- Without a fan you're dreamcast will die in 1 or 2 days for SURE, and without modding it, a DC don't even boot without a fan, YOU SHOULD NOT do that, DCs get pretty hot you know ...
5-Find a neat enclosure...

the batteries: another thing said the picopsu wouldn't work cause the 12v rail didn't give enough amps or something.
thanks for the cd rom part. i'll just try and incorporate the gdrom then... its not a nice tray deal so it might be a small hassle but then again i said i don't NEED a keyboard so it could just remain in its normal position... i'll work it out.
how hard is it to remove the psone screen from its round casing? and i was just thinking of using like a small tv removing the stand and encasing it in the acrylic case so i could just remove like a faceplate on the case and the tv would come free, this would also make it easy to add tv and cable to the rig. my only issue was the battery lifetime >.> i would assume for a good sized one it would be a pretty good power hog (hense those nice expensive batteries mentioned afore...). soo if the psone screen can be removed from the round casing it might not be too bad... though i woulda liked a bigger screen...

A picopsu works like a charm, you only have to connect the PWR_ON pin to the ground (GRND) to make it boot with no problem. (if you connect PWR_ON with PWR_GRND it will miss power like you said though, but it's sleep mode, PWR_ON linked to GRND works 100%)Tarythiel wrote:Well you have been very helpful.

I'm the one that said the 12Volt rail may be a trouble, but it turns out to be very low on the PicoPSU Variable Input model only. well that solves my issues with power then...
as for the vac forming... well for my first case unless i can convince someone to do it for me i will not be able to do it i am afraid. i don't have a bunch of extra money so... yea.
the screen is the only issue i have left. i really would like a larger screen, especially if i plan on doing anything thats more then one player. if i must stay with the smaller psone screen... how hard is it too hook up speakers into this thing then and how hard is it to have a v/a connection in it as well?
