When I was like seven, I used to go over to my cousin's house to play his Nintendo Entertainment System. I didn't have a videogame system so it was very exciting. He had about twenty games. One of them was Fester's Quest. I always wanted to play it, but he would never let me. He would always say I could play any game but Fester's Quest, and that made me really sad. I didn't actually get to play Fester's Quest up until about a year ago. Just thought I'd share that story with you all.

Why wouldn't he let you? Would he let you watch him play?

Is Fester's Quest even that great? It seems retarded.

Actually, retarded is probably a good way to describe it. But I was seven, I liked the cover art.

I've tried it, and it's as bad as the AVGN video says it is:

- Fester moves way too slow
- The slime enemies in the sewer multiply exponentially
- It's hard to tell what weapon you're going to pick up, so you can potentially downgrade all the way
- There's no autofire so you had better get a turbo controller
- A lot of the more powerful weapons have a wide sweep, and hitting anything stops the bullets.
- "Continue" starts you back at the beginning of the level
- The enemy spawning subroutines are completely borked; as soon as a tile goes off screen an enemy can spawn on it. (Trust me, this is worse than it sounds)
- You only start with 2 units of health.

It's too bad; Fester's Quest is a decent idea. Good idea, poor execution.

It seems that a lot of people want to continue the Fester's Quest discussion, so have at it! :P I split the old Fester posts from the old locked thread so people don't get confused.

Oh, and bic touched on it, but in case you haven't seen it, check out The Angry Video Game Nerd's review of the game. Funny stuff! But I warn you, if you've lived in an interwebz-box and never seen the Nerd before, it's pretty vulgar, so don't say I didn't warn you.

Shouldn't this be moved to the NES section?

I figured it'll be left here for another day or so, just until people realize it's in existence, then I'll move it. Oh, and by the way...

I beat festers quest when I was a kid. Its actually a pretty fun game, but you NEED a turbo controller. The slimes respawn too fast to kill without one, but with turbo they become an easy source of powerups. And powering up your weapons is stupidly easy. One color powers up, the other powers down.

It definitely has its flaws, but its not bad for an NES game IF you have a turbo controller.
