As I recall, you needed to do some things to a normal hard drive to make it work with an Xbox. Knowing Microsoft, they probably only use normal hard drives with a similar (but not identical) kind of protection, in an attempt to get you to buy more of their stuff. Google putting a HD into an Xbox 360. Someone may have found a work-around.

It's possible to do with an Xbox, but not with an Xbox 360. I believe there was a way to do it with a 360 (involves taking your own SATA drive and shoving it in after doing some dirty formatting and partitioning work), but Microsoft "patched" that, I believe, so I think your answer is no.
