Do you have a technical question that doesn't really fit a specific console? Want some general info on electronics, hacking, making cookies, etc? Here's the place to ask! Go nuts.
Honestly, I really have no idea what I'm even doing here. I have a little experience with electronics and I have one failed NESp under my belt, but that's about it. That and some random hacks like that VR thing I made and that Guitar Hero controller. (Which isn't finished)
But anyway, if I get a 7805 voltage regulator and 4 AAs I'll be okay?
If you're looking at this post and it was made before 2008, just ignore it.
It's a 7805 5v regulator, and I'm not sure how you've made it this far without knowing what it is.
Do you really think the voltage difference is that high?
Regardless, wiring up any DC power source above 5v and running it through a 7805 will give you 5v out, provided it's wired correctly (which is ridiculously difficult to screw up). So yes, 4AA batts = 6V, ran through a 7805 = 5V. And like Sky said, how can you have over 700 posts here and not know this?
Lowest input voltage for 7805 is 7.2v, give or take a half a volt. Using only 6v from AA will result in drop-out. Either find a different regulator or use 5 batteries.
You should be able to just use 4 AAs if you get a hold of a low-input regulator. I don't remember the name of it, but you get one from digi-key that has a 6v minimum input requirement.
Actually, microphone ports on computers and laptops and such do carry electricity. A mono microphone has three wires: one's data, one's ground, one's 5VDC. I tested it with a voltometer.
