My teacher said that it was a great historic occasion and that John Glenn was the ideal candidate for studying the effects of space travel on aging.

This was stupid because Story Musgrave is almost as old as John Glenn and has over 53 days in space, compared to John Glenn's piddly single trip around the earth. He would have been a much better selection.
Well, that wasn't so much classroom ignorance as it was mass ignorance; after all, that's what NASA and the media were saying as well about the mission. Then again, maybe they were interested in its effects on someone who looks really old.

I would guess that either Musgrave was merely disinterested in the mission, or NASA was trying to rile up some public interest in the space program (for every day that there's even mild media interest in the space progam, there seems to be ten months of utterly absolute disinterest).

I knew someone who thought that Arnold Schwarzenegger was the president of California. She also said she had a mac, and when I asked her what kind, she "Mac". I managed to figure out that it was a Powerbook, but god she was dumb...

I don't want to make an "I'm leaving" thread, but I've sort of lost interest in this board. So if you notice that I'm gone, that's why.

Did she have hair that was dyed blonde? This seems to be an increasing prerequisite for stupidity in this country, though I'm not sure why... Interestingly enough, the vast majority of real blondes that I've met are freaking sharp.

No, she was black, actually. But that doesn't matter. Anyway, apparently she's in some special school now.

Ah, I have a similar story. One girl had a mac, and I asked her if it was an intel or Powerpc Processor. she goes "Don't you know anything about computers! ITS A MAC!"

On a really busy forum, I understand why bumps that don't add anything to a topic are problematic, but I can't see what the issue with them is on this forum, considering that the topics on the first page date back two weeks.

Just an observation.:P

Yeah, we do seem to be suffering from a bout of "ghost town syndrome"; a lot of the regulars come by less and we get a bunch of tourists (newbies who only post a handful of times then jump back on the tour bus for the next site someone submitted to Digg).

Fun fact: if you search Google for "forums.benheck.com" the first thing to come up is the Pandora's battery without a homebrew PSP thing...

my high school chemistry teacher did not believe in evolution, straight up literal bible was his bag. funny, my boss thinks the same way, except he says that dinosaurs and humans lived at the same time because of those footprint pictures that have been thoroughly debunked 30 years ago (and any idiot with a brain can tell those pictures are stupid and not human related at all.
