Any snowboarders in the house?

Are there any snowboarders around these parts? I just got all my new gear for this upcoming season. Should be sick. We've got a nice mountain in my city so the season is usally pretty good.

Anyway, do any of you ski or board? Or do any other sports for that matter? I dunno... maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree here, asking this in a video game forum, but who knows...

Georgia=Southern U.S.=Hot=No snow. Except in the mountains. I went skiing once in SC. It was fun.

I live in Utah (best snow on earth), but I've never been skiing or snowboarding. To me, the idea of paying a large amount of money to buy/rent the equipment and a pass at a resort in order to strap a piece of wood to my feet and slide down a hill doesn't sound so great. Sledding is good, because sleds are cheap and don't require monster hills (aka, a resort) to be fun.

Snowmobiling, though, that is where its at. Costs a bit more than boarding and skiing, but then you don't have lines, don't need a hill or a lift, and you can go really fast. I mostly trail ride, since I usually only go once a year and its hard to get good at something when you only do it for a few hours a year. There is the one problem with snowmobiles, they cost several thousand dollars, but are only usable a few months a year (unless you live way far north). We had a couple snowmobiles, but we sold them in favor of a couple of 4 wheelers (ATV's, quads, whatever you call them), which are usable year round.

Winter is my favorite time of year, snow is t3h pwn, and cold > hot.

I go skiing once or twice a year.
I dont go enough to own anything decent so I just rent the stuff when I go.

usually just a few friends, but sometimes I will go with the family

Here, we are lucky if it flurries. And if we get half an inch of snow, it's a miracle.

Its the same concept. No matter how fancy and engineered you make a chair, its still just a place to put your butt.

Saying a piece of wood and a snowboard are the same thing sounds completely incorrect to me. Would you goes as far as to say a snow-mobile is just a fancy sled? Do you consider a Raptor 700R to be a fancy Raptor 50? Are all cars just something to drive in? Do you only sit in a chair?

Also, some snowboards don't even have wood in them...

I'm sure he didn't mean it literally. (I agree though, spanding hundreds of dollars to slide down a hill isn't my idea of wintertime fun.)

In case you haven't noticed, snowmobiles can take themselves to the top of the hill.

Snowboard=slide down hill
Piece of wood tied to feet=slide down hill
Thus, snowboard=piece of wood tied to feet

Snowmobile=go up and down hill
Fancy sled=go down hill
Snowmobile/=fancy sled

Yes, snowmobiles cost a lot of money, but so do snowboards, and snowmobiles can go up the hill. That means theres at least 2x the places you can ride, and thats not even including flat areas. And you aren't completely screwed in an avalanche, either.

Look...I understand what you're trying to say. I'm not an idiot, I just feel your judgment is wrong.
Just because two things do the same thing, it doesn't mean they are they same.

Quarter = used as currency
Dollar Bill = used as currency
Thus, Quarter ≠ Dollar Bill.

Snowmobiles = go up and down hills
Sleds = go anywhere you can walk
Thus, Snowmobiles < Sleds

I'm not against you or snowmobiles, I really like them.
It's just that I'm not against exerting energy or doing something physical for fun. I choose Mountain biking over dirt bikes because I can take it many more places, it can be tossed in the back of a truck/car when I need without any work and because I love to ride. I love to ride dirt bikes too, but it's not worth the work IMHO just to ride with my brother, if I'm going with friends, I'm much more inclined to ride.

I snowboard.....well, I did. I didn't go last year at all, and...possibly didn't go the year before (can't remember). I still used my board from 6th grade, so it was REALLY small, but fun for tricks and stuff

. Hopefully I can go up again this year (I'm in Pittsburgh).
