New forum dedicated for handhelds?

Want to just shoot the breeze? Forum 42 is the place!

Moderator: Moderators

Should there be a dedicated forum just for commercial handhelds? (DS, PSP, GP2x, etc.)

Of course!

New forum dedicated for handhelds?

Post by CronoTriggerfan »

We've had this discussion a few times before, but I really think it's time we take it seriously. There are so many questions about custom firmwares, games, hacks, etc. on already handheld systems like the PSP and DS that are currently just shoved in F42. I think it's time they're given a home, because it's obvious (to me, at least) that there is sufficient enough discussion about them to do so. What say you all?

Agree. There are a lot of places to discuss official handhelds in other websites. Here is a place where you discuss your own projects and progresses.

They need a home of their own.

So you're advocating that people who mod existing handhelds should be left in the dark? Look, it's not like they aren't discussed here and I'm not just bringing this up to milk some life into the forums. These discussions are already abundant, I'm just saying that instead of scattering them throughout the forums and getting F42 clogged back every time a new custom firmware is released for the PSP, we should give these threads a proper home.

EDIT: Just to back up my claims...

And keep in mind, that's just one page in one forum on one given day. Over a large span of time in all forums, these threads run rampant. Again, not saying the discussion is bad, just saying it needs a permanent place to reside.

I think it would make sense, fitting with the general theme. There's boards for modding 8-bit Nintendos, 16-bit Nintendo, Dreamcast, etc, etc.... It would follow suit that there be a board for modding, in any fashion, the already-portables.

I don't feel like arguing my point again so I just voted yes.

Did you not know how to take a screenshot either?

This site is pretty much for people that like modding, but want to do more than paint cases and add LEDs. Portablizing is going the extra mile to quench you're modding addiction. There are other ways to feed it, too. This place is perfect for those that are above LEDs, but aren't electrical engineers.

Well, I knew how in XP, but I wanted to make sure it was the same in Vista.

But in all honesty, for anyone who answered "no", can you please go into detail and attempt to justify yourself? Because personally, I don't really see any logical reason why you would be against this initiative.

F42 and Tech Q&A are both suitable for portables. We don't need another forum.

Yes, I asked for this a while ago.

This is a game system modding site, consoles and handhelds are game systems. I don't suggest a different forum for each (that would be unweldy), just one more forum for all other handhelds (GBA, PSP, GP2x, etc).

It makes sense.

I'd prefer to keep threads of this nature where I can see them- in Forum 42. I'm always against diluting a forum with multiple catagories and subforums. Spreading and effectively limited number of new topics per time period over ever more numerous sections means each section will have less activity.

Besides, you have an arcade forum, and there hasn't been any posts there in a week.

There are plenty of people here that mod handhelds, and I'm not just talking adding LEDs.
