Here's an example of how long copyrights last in the U.S.: Mickey Mouse's copyright has never been renewed.

Keep in mind that Mikey Mouse is about to hit 80 years old next year. Copyright only lasts (currenlty) 70 years. He's actually public domain by now, but with the ability to hold a copyright on the name makes it almost impossible for anyone to use him freely.

Keep in mind that thanks to Clinton (dumbest president ever) putting the DMCA through we have a max of 70 years for copyright renews and all this other BS that has taken fair-use and make it into a useless constitutional term.

Actually, I think Mickey and all the other Disney characters are protected as trademarks, which last until they are not used commercially anymore. :?

Seems funny that Disney made its fortune using Public Domain stories (Snow White, Cinderella, ect.), but now holds tight to everything they make. Their one of the more hypocritical companies in existence.
