Oh man, this is gonna suck HARD. As a Michigan resident, I can say that this is NOT the direction we need to go in economically. It'll kill local business revenue, that's for sure. To get to this point, to me, is simply dumbfounding; the way Jennifer Grandholm and her ridiculously large mole have handled our economy is just plain stupid, as she's hell-bent on raising taxes statewide. The lady wanted to put a tax on soda, for god's sake. SODA, PEOPLE!

I know there's a whole "No Government" thing here, but in the case of economics, I dunno, I think we should be able to chat at leas a little.

Okay, for all those who are unaware of the situation, here's the lowdown:

Basically, Michigan's economy has gotten to the point where, in order to keep a monthly balanced budget, some idiots believe that we need to shut the government down, both completely and on a regulatory basis, for a few days. Some of these things include:

The Lottery
Liquor Sales (limited)
Any store that makes more than 6% of their income on liquor/tobacco
State Parks
Department of Education
State Police
The Court Systems
Medical Clinics
Counseling
Secretary of State offices
Department of Civil Rights
Department of Agriculture
Casinos
Libraries
Museums
DNR
Road Construction
State Rest Areas
Public Transportation Services
Department of Treasury

...the list goes on, but I think you get the idea. The government stops working for a few days, and the theory behind the whole thing is, if the government isn't functioning, then they still rake in the dough on taxes, but don't have to spend it, thus balancing the budget. The thing they DON'T realize is, that by doing this, they put many people out of a job for days, not to mention giving local economies the finger.

This idea is so stupid, it surprises me that anyone with more intelligence than a 3 year old wouldn't know that its made of fail (which is probably the problem :P ). Some of those make sense, since they never do anything anyways (court systems), but what about people that are traveling and have to pee NOW? Something tells me that the rest areas will have a large amount of human waste around them.

When does this ever actually happen, or have any significant effect?

And this can go nowhere but political, so lock-a-fied.
