frets on fire help

Post by Shadeslayer »

Ok I must either be really tired or really stupid cause I can't figure out how to put downloaded songs on frets on fire. I downloaded a few zip files and wanted to put them on but can't.

Unzip the folder. You should have a folder (named whatever you want) with at least some of these files inside:

guitar.ogg
song.ogg
song.ini
notes.mid

maybe a text file or PNG image too but these aren't necessary.

Put the folder in the /data/songs directory.

The game should automatically detect them.

You can also put song folders inside other folders (they show up as briefcases in the song selection menu). This is great for grouping by artist.

EDIT: Is the game more fun with a guitar controller? The keyboard hurts after a while, and hitting F5 isn't the easiest, with the gap and all. :(

Edit: I just finished Bang Bang, Mystery Man on Easy. 99% accuracy, 132 longest note streak, score: 78733!

I keep trying to use the xbox 360 guitar controller on my pc but it doesn't work for me. I have the Microsoft Controller Driver but when I go to install it, it gives me an error which says something along the lines of "Setup was not complete." Thats it, no explanation why.

I've tried using the number keys but I just can't get used to hitting 5 (purple). Maybe I should just cheat and set it to a key I can reach with my other hand (which is only hitting strum at the moment.)

Anyone know a good place to download songs without the ogg files? (It's more likely to be legal, and I've probably got the songs anyway.) I've pretty much tapped Keyboards on Fire dry.

I'm not sure where but I did find songs without the ogg files. But the only files were XML... I'll see if I can dig that up.

The keyboard is very easy to use, but I'm building my own controller with a fret board with a string you need to press down and a string you need to pick. (Probably going to end up being one long string) See the news forum, it's up there.

Are there any must have mods for FoF? Right now all I have is the light graphics mod because my PC isn't too great. (It's running on my MAME. Guitar Hero Arcade!!)

The left shift is the perfect place for the purple. I've never played, but your thumb could go there.
