Xbox Softmod Questions

Post by vskid »

I want to softmod my Xbox, but I don't want to deal with finding the right version of mechassult/splinter cell/007. I found this guide that doesn't need any games to mod it, so I was wondering if anyone here has had any experience softmodding that way.
I was also wondering if I wanted a bigger hard drive, should I softmod it first or install/lock the bigger hard drive first?

In my experience, I found it easier to Hard Mod. To date I have hard modded 2 Xboxs and Soft Modded 5 Xboxs. I helped GamematerAS Softmod his Xbox over AIM.

If you don't want to look I have the version of Splintercell that is the one used for Soft modding. I'll send it to you if you pay shipping.

I have no experience hotswapping (although I've heard it takes precise timing and can be a PITA), but just an FYI: You don't need a specific version of Splinter Cell (the others do). I bought a "Platinum Hits" version from Gamestop for $3 and it worked perfectly for softmodding.

I'll try to check Gamestop and that today for some games that'll work, I'll PM you Harsh if I can't find any. I have an xbox to USB adapter, but my USB hard drive wouldn't work. My friend is borrowing my CF flash drive, so I'll have to wait until she gets it back to me to try it. How big does it have to be and does anyone know which flash drives will work? My dad has a couple I could borrow without him knowing...

@ketchup: Was it the Platinum disc, though? It could have been the old disc in the Platinum case.
