GameCube Controller

I'm thinking of wiring a GC controller to use on my N64 (or just simply rewiring an N64 one to fit in a GC shell, either way), and I just figured that maybe I could get some advice.

Is it possible to fix the wiring so that the C-stick reacts like the original C-pad and the L and R buttons to react accordingly (and make the L read as Z and Z as L, etc.)? And how about that rumble, how in the world will that work out?
