Genesis Models

Does anyone know the difference between a Model 3 Genesis and the other models? Other than the look of the model and the TAS support.

I bought another Saturn and a Genesis on eBay and was wondering if there was anything I was missing out on by having a Model 3. (Or any extra features for that matter.)

With a model 3, you're only lacking features. It is not usable with the Sega CD or any other add on of the like. It also can't play the game Virtual Racing. On the bright side, it's circuit is like a 5" square.

I think there were like 2 versions of the Genesis 3 (yeah that sounds weird) and some could use the 32x. The only really good purpose of having a Genesis 3 though is for portablizing.

That sucks. Well I mostly got it for the Saturn, so maybe I'll use the Genesis for practice on making portables.

Well if you don't play 32x, CD, or the Master System games on your genesis, then the Genesis 3 is fine. You can mod it for better video output and make it play imports rather easily.

Doesn't it already play imports fine?

No. There is a very simple mod in which all you do is install two switches to switch between NTCS-PAL and 50-60hz.

Right. For some reason I was under the impression it would play most if you just cut the tabs or something like that.

EDIT: What do you mean you mostly got it for the Saturn? The Saturn is a completely different console...

I think he meant he bought them as a lot and bought it primarily for the Saturn.
