Disc write error (DVD burner problem)

Ok I think the burner part of the drive is dead but before I jump to conclusions I want to ask some questions.

Why do I keep getting these error (Power calibration error, Disc write error) I have trown away like 5 dvd+Rs cause of the Write error and none of them had scratches or smudges or anything on them.

A couple days ago it started as Nero not wanting to burn any discs because of the Power calibration error, so I loaded up my old dvd burner program that doesnt even have a buffer, and I cant do anything while discs are burning, and that has worked the past few days now all of a sudden both programs don't burn more than 3-5% without failing.

I already tried the IMAPI burner Disable fix for the power calibration error, but that did'nt fix the power calibration problem at all.

EDIT: yeahs it definatly the drive, I put in a 5 or more year old CD-RW drive with the same jumper setting and got a perfect smooth as silk burn from Nero. Well time to replace that crap burner with the same manufaturer, hey it even looks nearly the same

EDIT again: For some reason, after shutting down the computer and replacing the supposedly bad DVD burner into my tower, I was able to burn stuff again

weird, could Craxtion have any affects on my burner?

It does sound like your burner is dying but you may check at what speed your burning at as I always burn at 4x and always have had successful burns. You may just have to buy a new drive which is only like $30 so if it has died (which it sounds like it) then it shouldn't be a big deal.

I don't think i ever burn above 16x in any media, too higher risk for a slightly sorter time.

My dvd+RW burner is like 4 years old at least, and only goes up to x4 for DVD burning and like and like 16x for cd-rs, so thats not my problem as Im am buring xbox back-ups at the lowest possible speed.

And I cant add stuff to my HDD for some reason over ftp, cuz of an Can't access file/File transfer error problem, yet I can pull files and stuff from the Xbox to my Computer.
