How'd you get your start?

I've been wanting to get into making some of my old consoles into portables for some time now so I figured I'd look into it.

Obviously this requires a lot of know-how on my part, so I was wondering where you guys started out? I'm now there's not going to be an end-all be-all tutorial that will give me everything I need to know, (I've got Ben's book, but I want to work on some consoles not discussed), I'm just looking for some sort of footing.

I started out by making an Nesp using instructions from Ben's book.

lol, I read about some guy making a NESp (not Ben, some fat guy), and thought I could do that to my Genny 1. I failed miserably, and cost me and my parents about 200-300 dollars, but in theory it was kinda like paying 300 for a course, because after that, I got a lot of knowledge about electronics and systems in general. So now I can make one, if I had the money. Just pace yourself, that's it.

i started out when i stumbled across POD and bens old site, saw some of the portables on pod and thoght "wow i think i could do better than that" (keep in mind this was nearly 4 years ago lol) so i decided to start workin on that stuff, of course trying an n64 first (and becoming a charter member of the IFMNAIPOI club lol) after several failures i decided to move away from n64 and on to other things
