its a nes controller modded for usb you can buy a kit to do that
then inside the controller he has a usb hub and a flash drive
the flash drive hols a bunch of roms along with an emulator and a frontend
pretty simple actully
do you know how to do fine solder work? if not you should get some old busted electronics and practice on them. Read bens book and then come and ask what you havent figured out already
Can't view the video right now, as I'm at work, but how do you chop everything up that small? I just bought a working SNES controller with no screws, so I might see if I can work the guts into an SNES (bought one with a case that was busted in transit) and recycle the controller into this same sort of thing. Can't imagine the guts of, say, a USB number pad, flash drive (or CF card + reader) and hub would fit in there, with just one cord coming out...
You don't really need to chop anything, if you get the right parts. USB thumbdrives can be found pretty small, and even the bigger ones can be trimmed down quite a bit by removing their casing. There is a USB hub sold at a few places that is very small, about the size of a compact flash card, remove the casing and it will fit without much trouble. Keyboards nowadays have a small circuit board (usually not much bigger than the Caps, Scroll, and Numlock lights' area, and you can trim off the light segment of the keyboard) and the rest is two mylar sheets under the buttons. The board for the original controller is quite small and doesn't take up much depth, leaving a lot of space for other things.

But that doesn't include the games, does it? And I don't want to sacrifice the board if I don't absolutely have to (planning on using it in an SNES laptop).
jedi knight wrote:Whoa there. That is not going to play on an SNES through a usb port. That probably won't even play on the SNES without "haxxoring to the max".
Oh no, I mean the controller board was for the laptop. The controller shell itself would be for a SNES version of the original post.
I suppose you could build in a hacked USB stick + keyboard, put an autorun on it (with an emulator), and set it to "unwriteable" (some usb sticks have that kind of option)
