Best: Although I couldn't really pick a single best, or even a group of games I could say for sure were among the best, I can say that year after year, I've found myself coming back to Virtua Fighter 2 for the Sega Saturn (note that I was never able to get my hands on the original game or 3 back in the day, and my copy of 4 was short-lived, having gotten it right before "quitting" video games). It is infinitely playable. Final Fantasy VIII and Chrono Trigger also come to mind as far as "great" games go.
Worst: Luckily, I seem to usually have no interest in the games that wind up getting the poorest reactions, though I haven't been entirely immune to them. The most extreme example I can think of comes in the form of Mortal Kombat: Special Forces, and it's my contention that my experiencing this utterly horrendous piece of Grimace's excrement is absolutely no fault of my own, but rather PSM's, who, a few months prior, ran an article that went on for pages about all the zany adventures that Jax and Sonya would be having on their hunt for Kano, detailing how many obstacles and enemies would require brute strength and puzzle-solving on Jax' part and agility and puzzle-solving on Sonya's part (that's my story and I'm sticking to it). In the end, they made a game, starring Jax, about hunting Kano, which excluded Sonya.
P. S. - Hey Jones, twelfth in Wisconsin? Nice. Is that in a particular game or catagory or is it just a general accumulation of your various scores in various games?

I remember the bad load times and some of the minigames being total crap but just wandering about on the skateboard was quite amusing and enough to make sure it wouldn't be someones worst gamejedi knight wrote:I hated that game! One of my favorite games ever is super mario world. I have also been getting into halo 2 lately even though I am horrible and usaly only get a few spots up from last in the tournaments, but hey I only started playing about a month ago.
Its funny all of you seem to say ET for worst game ever, how many of you actually played it and thought it was the worst game ever. It just seems the whole internet has decided it was the worst game ever so you all carry that torch over as your own opinion.
Just my 2 cents

See, that's what I had figured, and then I bought the game. It actually is that horrible and the entire internet deciding it is horrible is for the benefit of anyone who wanted to play the game.gamemasterAS wrote:One of my favorite games ever is super mario world. I remember that one being an "Adult" game for the 3DO. Never played it... Apparently not playing it was to my benefit.wallydawg wrote:Plumbers Don't wear ties goes laps around anything mentioned for worst so far.
It is just based on the cumulative Gamerscore, but still fun. That is actually a leaderboard done by the folks over at http://www.xboxamerica.com. So it is only based on those who sign up. I think there are a little over 30 people from Wisconsin signed up so far.Ecksem Diem wrote:P. S. - Hey Jones, twelfth in Wisconsin? Nice. The things people come up with in their spare time.
And... Total Recall for the NES was terrible. Somehow I overlooked it earlier.

Actually, thousands of copies of this game were buried as landfill and it cost the company concerned a fortune!gamemasterAS wrote:Its funny all of you seem to say ET for worst game ever, how many of you actually played it and thought it was the worst game ever. Yes, forgot to mention another great game someone else mentionied, Banjo Kazooie - I haven't played Banjo Tooie yet (I have it).
I've played it on my brother's VCS. It really is horrible, but, to be honest, I think there are plenty of other games that are just as unplayable-- like the 2600 version of Double Dragon. I think the awfulness of the game is largely magnified due to the legendary landfill story and as one of the earliest examples of movie licenses with horrible video game cash-ins, as well as the fact that many more people played it than some much worse games without a hit movie counterpart.gamemasterAS wrote: Its funny all of you seem to say ET for worst game ever, how many of you actually played it and thought it was the worst game ever. So, I confess to feeling some pressure to mention it. I did hate it before I knew one was supposed to hate it, though, and it really is among the worst I have personally played.
You see something similar with movies. The movies that are held as the worst are the ones people actually watched. There are worse movies out there, they're just really obscure. Not many people have seen "Crazy Fat Ethel 2".
