How many people honestly fill their 50+ gig devices to capacity and listen to / watch everything on it on a consistent basis anyways?

I have an entire 250 GB HD devoted to nothing but music, and it is full. Actually, around last Thanksgiving (day-after sales) I had to purchase another 250 GB one to start supporting overflow.

Yes, I own that much [legal] music. It is the amalgamation of four inherited CD, LP, and concert recording collections. The CD collections were my parents' (they're still alive, just in case that implied the wrong thing there) and date back to the first ever produced CDs (they owned a CDP-101 at one point - the world's first home CD player, a Sony product as well mind you). The LP collection ranges from gifts to purchases I have made to more inherited albums. The live recordings are lossless audio and comprise the bulk of the storage space (not sure how much, exactly); there's a lot of Zeppelin, some Floyd, Dylan, Beatles, White Stripes, Who, Robert Plant, David Gilmour, Roger Waters, Hendrix, and a few other bands.

But yes, 250+ gigs of music which currently all comfortable resides on my 5G 60 gig (lossless music downscaled to lossy formats, such as mp3s - that's about a 20-something MB file down to a 3 MB file) with a couple of gigs left for videos: Port Washington, Shawn of the Dead, and Pi.

Well you aren't normal. I have a 250GB Hard Drive, and I still have 195GB Free. Worst yet is that not all of that is just Music, it's everything! From the 9 Steam Games, UT 2004, WoW, to Word Documents, Videos (Like 4 Pirated recent ones) and my Music.

One question, do you actually listen to every single song or do you pick favorites? No way in Hell would I rip a 150MB CD when I could just take the one song and use only 3-5MB.

I'm a rather enthusiastic audiophile and I do listen to most of what I own on a somewhat [sic] regular basis. There's just so much of it to hear that it typically takes me a few months to listen to a good sampling of everything I own. I will admit, a lot of the concert recordings I own have multiple duplicate songs and they do not always get listened to; however, each concert has its own feel and emotions and, like choosing a wine, I choose a date which best appeals to my current tastes.

I may not listen to every single song consecutively, but I have listened to every song in my archive at least three or four times (more popular songs obviously receiving a greater number of plays).

That CD player must have been expensive! I wish I had some '80s CD's...

I've heard good things about Pi, how is it?

"Pi" is very good and definitely worth a watch, especially if you are into complex, suspenseful plots. Alternatively (and infinitely more complexly), you can and should view "Primer;" it's hard to find for sale, but Blockbuster has it for rent/purchase. It's a bit legendary for it's incredible production on such a meager budget (~$7000 USD), but it's one multiple awards and took the Grand Jury Prize at Cannes, if that serves as any indication of it's value. It is, simply put, raw science-fiction, and perhaps the most authentic and "real" sci-fi movie since 2001 [the movie, not the year]. Seriously, watch it.

Also, the CD player was stolen when I was about three, so even in 1990 it was still somewhat valuable I suppose (I'm looking for one still today to hear what it sounds like).

Couple things of importance:

-Apple's only guilty of one thing. It's not poor products or service. Quite the contrary they do have a good reputation of reliable easy-to-use products and quite helpful tech support. What they are doing wrong is over-saturating the market. Considering I just got an iPod (the 5g 80gb which I have filled to the brim and could use more space, but I work in lossless) and now there's a new model. That's pretty shabby.

-As I said above, and criticism on iPod being "too big" are about as misplaced as they can be. Guess what, boys, size DOES matters, and even the misses knows it. And apple knows it. Since they've put out the apple lossless codec they've popularized the idea that music can retain quality even when it's digital. Where ever I and my audiophilic friends can, we use .m4a. And there are a lot of audiophiles out there, certainly enough to justify a 160gb iPod. And I imagine PLEANTY of people will be able to use it to it's full capacity, lossless or not.

-The iPod touch is catering to a specific crowd. People how didn't want the iPhone but liked the concepts of the iPhone's GUI. So get over it.

-The iPod nano is ugly as sin. Incidentally, this is because the broke a fundamental law of design known as the Principle of Unequal Spacing, which is enhanced in a vertical layout, as seen in he iPod nano. This even break of the ipod, plus the oversized screen plus the undersized scroll-wheel is what makes it look ugly as sin.

-WiFi does not mean internet. It mean wireless networking. Find free wifi you get free internet service. Find free network jacks and you get the same thing. My school's campus has both all around. It's quite nice. Wifi is simply less secure, even if only a little bit (or a lot).

Finally someone mentions that! The screen dwarfs the click wheel and makes it look topheavy and fat. The 2G Nano (like mine), where the screen is about the same size as the click wheel, looks like a skinny iPod. It's a more eye-pleasing combination. Adding video playback kind of sucks too, since the screen's so small.

By fattening the Nano and adding unnecessary features, they ruined almost everything I liked about the old one. (It's is still flash-based, right?)

Of course not, but it says "WiFi web browsing" right on the product description page. (It's also a lot harder to find an open ethernet jack, and sometimes it's riskier. My college lets us use the WiFi system with whatever we want, and we can use the ethernet system. However, if someone messes something up in one of the labs and takes the entire building down, the foreign hardware is given the blame.

I still think they should have marketed the Touch as a PDA instead of an iPod. (:lol: iNewton)

Have you held one in real life? I thought it was ugly in the pictures, but then I saw and held one in real life, and it's really not that bad. And video has never been a problem on such a small screen for me.
