Should I? PSP questions, and buying advice.

Ok. I will be using names because it's easier to type.

I'll start off by saying I've already hit myself (not really), and that I accept my stupidity.

I recently tried Pandora's battery on Greg's PSP. He does not have custom firmware, so I can't. I should have done my research. I bridged the ground pin on the battery's eeprom and the one beside it, a spark ensued, and the battery charges in the psp but no longer works in the psp. I either fried the EEPROM or scrambled the data. Judging by the size of the spark, I'm assuming the bridged line was almost directly attached to 3.3V. I could measure that, actually... What's your opinion on the EEPROM's state?

Tom, another PSP owner, had his PSP ran over with a car. But it was in mud, and only sunk into the ground. No cracks as far as I know, which means the internals should be intact. Then it rained. He DID try to turn it on.

I currently owe Greg either a fixed battery or replacement ($15-20 from eBay). Tom doesn't know the state of his battery. I'm assuming it works or is close to working.

Tom wants $40 for his PSP. I'm hoping that a fuse or two is dead inside that can be easily bypassed.

Should I buy the $40 PSP, gamble with the PSP's life and the battery's state? Or buy Greg a new battery?

Can the battery still be used as a jigkick if I found a CFW PSP?

About the rain thing, I had a game boy color, left it out in the rain, found it completely submerged in a puddle, turned it on and it didn't work! Then like a week later turned it on and it worked just fine!

NEVER TURN ON ELECTRONICS WHEN WET. They (should) stil work when dried. However turning them on whilst wet makes them fry.

I have convinced Tom to let me open it before buying. What should I be looking for? I'll bring a multimeter and screwdriver set to school, along with anything else, but not a soldering iron, I'm sure that could get me suspended for a few days. My school is rather uptight about most everything.

Greg went over (he's on my side, by the way) and took a look at it. Apparently it looks really good. No cracks or anything. Must have been soft mud when the car drove over it.

I will check for bent circuit boards (which I'm assuming there is none, the PSP case seems rigid enough that if the case didn't crack the boards inside wouldn't bend, right?)

I will also check the fuses. If they're blown, that's a good sign, correct? Is there any part that would fry but not short out the fuse?

What else should I check for?+

He says he let it dry before turning it on, but I doubt he took it apart to do so.

How would I go about checking the battery's condition? I still have Greg's PSP, but is there anything that would cause the PSP to cease functioning if the battery is outputting a normal voltage? I can't take that apart, because it's glued and such.
