I just saw this new AVGN video:

and I was wondering what kind of program can do effects like that. I am very new in video editing though interested in it, and that video kind of reminded me of the starting of malcolm in the middle.

Adobe After Effects comes to mind. There's a free demo, but a real LEGITIMATE copy starts at a thousand dollars.

If you're good with 3Ds Max, you can pull that off too.

Or you could do what I do with all stupidly expensive software: Buy old versions on eBay! I got an Adobe After Effects 5.5 (Production bundle too!) for about $100 on eBay about a year ago.

I'm not sure, but I think ulead is just editing, no effects (at least nothing too fancy).
