Antenna Frequencies?
Hey, I'm buying a cell phone that has built in TV using an Antenna. (Cool thing is, that the stylis is the antenna :p)
It says that "TV tuner: 4 area options including China, Japan, Europe, America"
I'm in Canada. Would I be able to pick up Canadian Channels or American Channels?
And, is there a chance I could get Japanese channels?
Thanks.

Re: Antenna Frequencies?
Is this a Chinese SuperHappyFunTimeGo! phone? If so, don't count on the reception being that great unless you're really close to the transmitter. (Actually it probably won't be that great anyway, those little things don't pick up much without a proper antenna. My cousin's Sandisk MP3 player has an FM radio but it can't even pick up local stations.)

Set it to America. Your TV broadcasts can't be that much different than ours. You'll pick up whatever channels are geographically close to you. Depending on where in Canada you are, you might pick up stations from any of the north border states.HotDog-Cart wrote:I'm in Canada. Only if you go to Japan. Halfway around the freaking planet is a little far for VHF.And, is there a chance I could get Japanese channels.

Yes, Its a japanese happygolucky phone :p.
It says its radio frequency is 88MHz to 108MHz. I dont know if that applies to TV.
This things neat, as really.. I've never seen a phone with a built in TV Tuner. Good thing is: Using the Tv Tuner is FREE. Like it doesnt cost money like usuall phones do when you download or watch something.
Theres also a phone that looks like a blackberry, for like $140. One bad thing is, that both phones calling features DONT work in Canada and US. Theyres some on the site that I browse that DO work in Canada and US but they either look tacky, cheap, or are expensive. (The one that looks like black berry and the one that has the TV Tuner)

Unless you live close to a large city where they broadcast the channels I would probably say that you wouldn't receive channels on it.

If those frequency numbers are accurate, no. (Unless broadcast frequencies are different in Canada... Try looking it up on the website for your equivalent of the FCC.)HotDog-Cart wrote:Will I get some TV shows or not?

As Bic said, don't expect great things from that phone's television reception.
The frequency band you mentioned is FM radio in both the US and Canada. I assume that the phone also has an FM radio function.
The television standard is also the same between the US and Canada. You will want to set the thing to "America." After all, you live in the Americas. I've always thought it odd that US citizens refer to themselves as "Americans". I try not to do it, actually.
But Bicostp, the actual NTSC television signal is narrower than you'd think. A television station transmitted over the air is only about 6MHz wide. They've been forced to stick with this to keep backwards compatibility with black and white televisions. The color signal itself is surprisingly narrow, but fortunately our eyes are not as sensitive to color. The color channel is only a MHz or two wide, and is broadcast on the high side of the luminance information. If you get real close to your television set you will notice color bleeding across the screen.
On yet another sidenote:
Whoa, Benol! You need to work on your punctuation!
