It's a bit behind the Netscape and Opera based browsers in standards acceptance (except for Microsoft's 'standards', of course), though almost everything but Opera fails the <ahref>Acid test</a>. Just try loading my website in IE 6; it gets mangled because I used CSS.

I don't use Firefox to "stick it to the man" or any of those other open-source hippy excuses. I like it because of its extensions, AdBlock, tabbed browsing, and its clean, unobtrusive interface. (I think all of Microsoft's newest products are unnecessarily shiny and huge, like all the buttons polluting IE7, and the Aero interface.)

IE 7 has closed the browser gap since it includes tabs, but I'm still partial to Firefox.
Thank you for a sound and rationalized reasoning behind your browser of choice. It is nice to see someone with a legitimate response as to why they use one over another. I can respect that.

For what I need at work and at home IE7 does the job (IE6 did too for that matter, but the tabs are nice I must say). Admittedly for most things Firefox would work as well. At home in particular, but not so much at work. There are a number of applications we use at work that Firefox is not able to handle 100% with Sharepoint being the most prominent of all of these. Also you can administer IE through group policy, whereas you cannot with Firefox.

For these and any number of other reasons that's why I always say that Firefox is fine for personal use, but in an Enterprise environment it definitely has it's limitations.

Ummm... What was this topic about again?

Oh yeah... 1337!

I don't have any particularly technical issues with IE 7, I just feel that it's clunky and somewhat poorly laid out. As for IE 6, well, that's a whole 'nother "kettle of fish" (as they say in Wisconsin, supposedly).;)

I have heard that certain people in Wisconsin say that... Not going to name any names though.

What I hate about IE generally is its rendering. I always have to optimize my layouts for it. Then there is that it just didn't have tabs for such a long time (I know it does now, but I just started using firefox and sticked to it). It's certainly weaker on the XSS-Side (more insecure, in other words), and I dislike the whole "shinyness" of microsofts new products (including office), and Firefox got all those awesome extensions, which make it really awesome and customizeable. For one there is the developer toolbar, which is basicially a Toolbar with all kinds of behind-the-code info about any site (including self made ones) and (not sure if IE can do this) The Bookmark-bar it has.

I think Microsoft should make more effort to make it easier to switch from Mozilla to Explorer. I use both of them when testing my website, and the configuration of buttons is sometimes strange on IE. For example, it's really convenient on Firefox to have the Back, Forward, Refresh, Stop and Home buttons all aligned together. However, It's annoying on IE how they're split up on different sides of the URL box.

It can also get quite large at the top thanks to one small program such as the Yahoo Toolbar. However, on Firefox, they make sure the toolbar is compact and not an eye sore.

I do commend Microsoft for adding the "edit scrollbar with CSS" feature, however. I wish that was something that other browsers would enable.

I find IE clunky and slow. Firefox is a lot more streamlined and has better support. And it doesn't tell you that you aren't using add-ons. I found that annoying.

I don't want to make an "I'm leaving" thread, but I've sort of lost interest in this board. So if you notice that I'm gone, that's why.

My problem with IE7 is that it's just so freakin huge! FF takes up about 1 inch of computer screen at he top and IE takes more than 2. It makes me claustrophobic :P . I also like FF extensions, I would die without all in one gestures. It's just much more 133337 than IE

IE is slower. This is very likely...ey related to the fact that IE can't tell if something is evil or not. Firefox automatically blocks popups and malicious scripts, without ANY additional tweaks, right from the get-go of a fresh install.

IE opens everything. Even viruses Microsoft has been aware of for YEARS.

I have never gotten a virus, ad popup, or anything of the sort from Firefox, and I have no add-ons on Firefox. Why no add-ons? Because I was too lazy after our last reformatting.

Also, IE interface is full of all sorts of useless graphics that do nothing but burn space and memory. That seems to be Microsoft's new motto: "We make simple things complicated and use more memory to do less."

Anyone used Microsoft word 2007? It's HELL. I switched back to 2003.

This may not be the case at his school, but at my old high school they blocked ImageShack because people used it to get around the dirty picture filters.

People at my school sometimes use Google Image Search (and only look at the thumbnails) or proxies. But, you get nailed by the administration the second you Google Search "proxy.cgi".

I've looked at pr0n at school before just to see if I could or if their were blocks. But yeah otherwise you would have to be pretty ballsy to look at pr0n at school.
