POINT FOR THE HACKERS! Teenage hacker unlocks the iPhone's

Post by limpport »

Score! 17 year old George Hotz did some freakin' tiny soldering and a lot of filmware stuff to make the iPhone work on any network besides AT&T. I'm sure most of you have heard or seen about it.

His blog and how-to: http://iphonejtag.blogspot.com/

Anyone going to try?

There are also better hackers that did it with software only.

Though when its released to the public its gonna cost something, but sooner or later someone will leak it for free.

yeah, I read about this maybe a week after reading about several other people who did it. my guess is that he is the hardware equivalent of a 'script kiddie', who just found out how to do it on the internet and copied.

since hes 17 and he bragged about it the news made it into a story but I doubt he came up with it all on his own.

Nah I've been checking his blog from time to time for the last 2 weeks or so. This guy really seems to know his stuff. Of course he had a lot of help, but thats still pretty impressive. And he got an internship out of it.

Anyone catch that Australian kid on digg who hacked some big porn filter in 40 minutes after its release yesterday? Hardly as impressive, but the picture of the kid with the porn on his monitor behind him, and the fact that his name was 'Tom Wood' made me laugh. And the fact that he was 'victim to internet bullying' in the past.
