Basicaly, I'm making a SNES portable for my best friend - it's a late birthday present, and i want it done before I go back to uni. I'm in the UK, so its a PAL SNES.
I bought an off-brand (says "Voyager" o the screen, as per thread title...) PSone screen on ebay and a SNES from a local shop and got hacking; and everything was good. The SNES is chopped, with a chopped controller and extended player 2 port, and so forth, but that';s not the point.
The point is, the screen appears to be buggered. I've done an LCD Mod on the screen, which needs re-done (5mm LED's rather than 3mms', and one is dead <_<), removed parts of the transformer that powered the cold cathode, and popped it back together. The controller circuitry is separate to the screen, and in a few different boards. Totaly different to the official screen board, as well.
Now, The problem (took a while, I know
) is thus. The colour doesn't seem to work, and the brightness has dropped to practicaly zero. The brightness pot seems to be non-functional, but I'm currentley wary of testing it, as I'll explain in a sec. I *DID* Drop the screen at one point, but onto soft-ish carpet and from about half a metre; It's entirely plausible that's screwed it up, but I'd like to rule out the circuitry, as that's cheaper to fix Colour not working could be simply an after-efect of the brightness being stuck all the way down (Bust pot...?) - and yes, the LED's are bright enough, before that comes up. The screen lights up fine before it goes to black.
Before I start quoting specs and qualifications (I'm not totally inept
), I may as well explain the reason I'm hesitant to simply measure the pot; I've never been great with them anyway (too many legs for a resistor, IMHO 
) and I tried it about five minutes ago; powered the SNES and control circuits on, attatched one leg of my multimeter to ground, and tested the voltage at the legs of the po thats known to be working. The board with the pots attatched promptly blew part of it's negative track, which scared the bejesus out of me. Never had that with a voltage reading before...Anyway, specs and so forth. The IC that does most of the controlling is a "AN5372S". datasheet is easily found on the net, but it doesn't actualy say much, but it's there. Included periphery is mainly a small ( 1" x 2.5") PCB coated in surface mount resistors and caps. Brightness and colour signals come from the aforementioned board (the one with the blown track) via a pot. Note that this is just for a fixed signal to the IC, not any part of the video signal. The whole shebang is running from an RC battery I bought for airsoft usage; currentley a Team orion Ni-Cd Rocket pack, weighing in at 7.2v and 1500mAh. I've got a 2400mAh one for longer run time, but that's not charged atm. It's got plenty of juice left, so lack of voltage isn't an issue.
Well, apart from mentioning that I have an A-level in Electronics (British qualification, done before university...) and that I can understand technical jargon, all that's left is to appologise for the scatty and incoherent post, and plea for help.
Anybody got any ideas? Please? Even if it's just a case of "Get a new pot" or something simple
