PSone Screen Video Camera Mod

I love my video camera. It's the Panasonic PV-GS300. It takes great quality video with it's 3CCD's, and it's pretty small. There are however, too problems that it has.

The screen is tiny, and it has no headphone port.

So, I thought to myself, "The PSone screen is apparently very nice. Also, it can run off of batteries..."

So I came up with this plan.



As you can see, the camera is attached to a bracket by the 1/4 inch tripod mounting hole. A PSone screen is attached to the bracket. Under the whole this, a 7.2 volt RC car battery is attached. The cameras A/V cable is attached to the PSone screen. The headphone problem is solved because the PSone screen has a headphone port. (Right?)

It seems easy, but I've never seen a PSone screen in my life, so I have a few questions.

Is the screen really that great?

How easy is it to attach A/V in ports to the screen in case I want to easily attach it to something else? I only have one video cable for the camera, and I can't find one on eBay or anywhere. It's a proprietary cable.

For this, would S-Video be THAT much better then Composite? I know that PAL PSone screens can use S-Video, but I don't know how to get a PAL screen.

How long will the screen last, battery wise, with an RC car battery?

Are the speakers loud enough to hear well?

For the price its really hard to find something better, plus its 5", so resolution isn't a huge thing at that size.

I'd say pretty easy if you're decent at soldering.

I've never done a side by side comparison, but since you'll likely be moving a bit while using it, the difference won't be that great. Plus, I don't know if the PAL screen can take NTCS (I believe I read that it can, but you need to modify something).

How long will the screen last, battery wise, with an RC car battery?

If you're using the same one as most people here do (7.2v 3300mAh) I think you could get ~4 hours stock, maybe 6+ LED modded.

Are the speakers loud enough to hear well?

Depends on where you'll be using it.

One problem is that its an LCD, so if you use it outside, it'll be really hard to see.

Also, I want to detach that hinge thing off the bottom, but it has the headphone jack. Is there another place to put it? I have a few 1/8th inch audio jacks from RadioShack if that helps. Is there room inside the screen for one and the three RCA jacks?

I don't know, I sold mine, but my PSP is really hard to see in direct sun, even on the 4th "battery eater" backlight setting, and it has one of the brightest screens I've seen.
The screen itself is too thin for the jacks to fit completely inside it, but you should be able to figure out something that'll work.
I think its more his 360 stuff, he had 100+ comments on one of those, his new portable only has 35ish when I checked a bit ago. The 360 stuff also had 600+ diggs.
