Broken System File

Post by CronoTriggerfan »

The system file dsound.dll is broken on my computer, and it's required to run mostly every game. I tried reinstalling Direct X 10, no go. I've got a replacement file, but stupid Vista won't allow you to move any files to the system32 folder. Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks!

Does Vista have a recovery console? (XP has one you can install somewhere on the CD.) if so, install it and boot into it. (There will be a small text menu before the Windows logo loading screen comes up.) You should be able to copy the file there.

Got a live cd distribution of linux?

Place dsound.dll in c:/

boot to linux and move the file into the system32 folder.

boot back into windows and check to see if it is there.

vista shouldn't be able to stop you because it wasn't running.

It is not junk! It is assorted goods with no current use.
