legal charges for gun threats

Post by project_failure »

If someone has threatened to shoot some one multiple times what are the legal charges that can brought up? I know this is not the best place to ask but
this is an emergency.

im not sure, but I'd contact the local authorities and ask them. if this is secret or something, do it at a pay phone somewhere.

This may depend on where you live.

I know that in the United States you can at least get a restraining order.

Did they threaten to shoot with a gun on hand? Or are they bluffing.

Do you know if this person has a gun or is in possession of guns? If your sure this person has guns and could potentially harm you call the cops.

It was a message on a cell phone. He "CLAIMS" (but most likely does) to have a gun. You can here the slide of the gun in the message.

Please take this seriously. This is not a joke.

It's fun to mess with people who aren't serious about it. Bring a tape recorder with you and get it on tape and give it to the police.

I've done that so many times to this one kid who lies about anything he thinks is "badass" and i get him in so much trouble XD. Trouble as in OSS or ISS

If the person is serious, do the same thing. Tape it.

If he left you a phone message then you're set. Seriously, just take the message to the police. They'll be able to help you much more than any of us here on the board can, and they'll know more about your options for protecting yourself, your family, or whomever was threatened.

The police are your friends! :D Even if you're in doubt that he's serious.

After you go to the cops and he gets whatever they dish out to him, carry a recording tape recorder whenever you're in an area near him. That way, if he threatens you some more, you can go to the cops again. Even if he threatens to harm you if you do go to the cops, that's definitely enough for a restraining order if you got it on tape, and possibly if you haven't.

Ahem.
Violation of a restraining order, whether a temporary order or a restraining order after hearing, is a contempt of a court order. The restrained person found in violation of a valid restraining order may be immediately taken into custody and taken to jail. In addition, the offender can be charged with a misdemeanor or a felony crime, and could be sentenced to serve time in jail and to pay a fine for the offense.

Where could this person do you harm? School, a store, where? If its some place you can avoid, avoid it, especially if they police aren't helping or he doesn't care about a restraining order (cause those are only good for a few hundred feet aren't they, he could easily get a gun that could take you out from that distance).

Really?

In the U.S., at least, you can get some with a pretty long range.

It seems that taking the message to the police would be the best thing to do.
I was just wondering what could be done to him before having to take any action. Thanks for the advice.

so from what you're saying this isn't a gun 'threat' at all. Simply a statement that he has a gun. The law tends to get very picky about that kind of thing.

I don't suppose there was any mention of shooting anybody with the gun, was there?
