Yes thats right. I am going to attempt the worlds first Atari 7800 portable. Instead of just slapping the enormous board to a screen and calling it done I am going to physically cut the board (much like a regular 2600 kinda) and replace some of the parts. The planed size of the portable will end up around the size of an Atari Lynx or a little shorter then my SNESp. Will be a huge challenge but I think it is doable.

Renders should be finished tonight maybe....

lol lynx is still freaking huge

but cool though not a lot of people care or even know about the 7800.

I don't think that's true, the 5200 and 7800 have a handful of followers. I for one only like them because of Frankenstein and Gremlins, but whatever. Good luck it would be awesome if you got it done. Keep us posted!

a "handful of followers" sounds like "not a lot of people" to me lol. But hey I'm willing to give it a chance since I currently have a 7800 in the mail.

Best thing for you to do is to redesign the board. Kevin Horton did something like that with a 5200. The key problem is that you can't cut the 7800 down like a 2600, they just didn't design it that well. I'd suggest when you get the system pick up a PCB design program and see if you can shrink the size of the board. You don't want thing thing competing with the 360 laptop for size do you?

Yes you can

Will a little work you can cut the 7800 board into a 4.5"x4.5"x5/8" block of electronics. You have to split the motherboard into two.

I have a rough sketch of the design. Total outside dimensions will be 5"x5"x2" clamshell style with a PSone 5" screen and internal battery. Will be quite a challenge but it is doable.

Well in theory you could leave out the tia. (no more 2600 compatible though) then wire it so it can't "select" the tia either.

To much work and not needed. The Board can be cut and rewired. Just keep your pants on.
