a quick windows xp professional edition question

Im upgrading a windows xp to professional edition, and I wanted an "aquired" copy because im not paying $100 to get one. so my friend gave me his copy, the problem is he wrote the key on the disk. im in middle of installing. does anyone have a key generator, or know if I can take the disk out?

I thought so because it had already "copied all system installation files" or something like that.

If someone had sent you a keygen or similar, you wouldn't be able to get it as you were still installing... If you have another PC on the internet, you could have found one and used it on the other system.

No advantage really of Professional instead of Home version of XP unless you are doing more than standard type networking.

Better to stay with XP than Vista, certainly for the next years, until you have to change.

Why "upgrade" to Professional edition? I'm pretty sure the only real difference is that Home edition doesn't have NTFS encryption or the ability to join windows networking domains.

No, I think it doesn't have an x64 sub-version.

I got the PC for free, and the lady I got it from didnt know the password. thats the only disk I could find that wasnt saved on my main PC

Oh, i thought you had a working Home installation...

Did you try the Offline NT Password and Registry Editor boot floppy? It can reset the password for you. (If you already installed, here it is for future reference anyways

)

Home Edition has limited hardware changes (reason I hate it!)
Limited Admin tools/utilites

Beyond those any real differences have been blurred that's to SP2.
