mats sundin and ed belfour's rookie cards also came out in 1990.

Rookie Cards usually come out a few years prior before playing as they are drafted. Sundin, Belfour, and Brodeur all didn't play until later (in this case during the 91-92 season, thus making an appearance in your set). Since it is their first year playing, some company's put "Rookie" on the card even though it is not.

It happens with baseball cards a lot too, I know Andruw Jones had 4 years of ROOKIE stamped cards, including the "real" RC from 1995.
