N64p

I'm thinking of making one but without opening the console up. Is it possible just to connect the N64 to a portable television instead of a normal television? But I don't know how I'll get the batteries in without hacking it to pieces.

You could empty out the AC power pack and make a battery pack inside it with the 3.3V converter and everthing else inside.
And you could hook video and sound up to a pocket TV by hacking the N64 AV cable.

Hmm... wouldn't a portable TV already have sound? (I'm dumb when it comes to electronics)

It has a speaker but no signal to the speaker. The N64 has to supply a signal for the speaker fro there to be sound.

Use a hip screen gamecube pad lcd. Then it can just plug right in.

Looks like the screen problem is solved then. I can use the screen for my Gamecube too then. Can anyone explain about the batteries? I'm still not sure.

You'll need at least a 7.2v battery, custom ciruit for power and the connecter from the AC adapter.
Now what you need to get is a power regulator that will dropt the power down to 3.3 volts. Or you can buy two 7805 regulators and two 3 Ohm resisters and wire those together in parallel that will give you your power circuit just plug the 7.2 volt batery into it. You'll need to also wire the outputs nad grounds to the connecter form the AC adapter.

This should make it run on battteries no problem,

Hey man since you are using the whole console and the portable TV would you be playing this mostly in the car??? If so just get one of these and you wont need any funny power adaptors. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product. ... id=1818511

seriously though, if you want to use electromaster64's idea, you could probably get away with only a cheaper 40 watt converter.......as for batteries.....well, Sparkfist basically summed it up nicely

And about the batteries, I still don't understand, where would I put them? I haven't got a clue really.

Open up a n64 power adapter and put them inside of it

(Yes, another question) Hmm... wouldn't I have to do a bit of wiring and such? And insert something that will hold the batteries? Never opened a power adapter up before.

Well, It'd be impossible to make a portable without at least some wiring.
You can use a battery holder from radio shack and velcro it in.

Only if you cant use a soldering iron, or have a some what steady hand.
