Portable Hard Drive.

I'll tell you like I tell everyone, build your own. You can get an enclosure for $10-20 for a decent one. And the hard drives sell typically for $1=1GB. So if you put your own together it will be about $70, maybe less if you buy a used hard drive.

Though it may say that no power adapter is needed, it uses two USB ports. One only fr power, and the ther for power and data. It is not uncommon for people to have problems running these without making or buying an adapter for the second plug.

You're much better off buying an enclosure and a hard drive; you'll get more for your money. Laptop drive enclosures can run off 2 USB ports (as long as the USB bus isn't fully loaded), but desktop drives need a power adapter or batteries.

One from ebay: AU $99 (Isnt that like $60 USD?) plus shipping, and waiting for it to come.

Enclosure and HDD: $70 but you have to make it run off batteries. Unless you buy a laptop hdd enclosure, but I dont think a regular harddrive will fit in the laptop enclosure.

Bic, will a regular desktop/pc harddrive fit inside the LAPTOP drive enclosure?

I'll take that as a no. And from what I understand laptop hdd's cost more than pc hdd's.

Kind of off topic, but my friend came up with the coolest device.

Having bought a 3.5" USB enclosure and having it break on him like three times, he went to the store and switched it for a 5.25" one (all they had left). He happened to have a 5.25" hot-swap drive bay handy, and had the brilliant idea to combine it with his new USB enclosure.

Now he can swap any full size IDE device into his laptop using one USB enclosure.
