Canada is strongly affected by the US, though, so if the US has poopy leadership, Canada will be affected by it. Canada is pretty cool, its one of the few countries I'd live in besides the US, and its the only other country I've been to (aunt and uncle live there, middle of nowhere).

I still need to get one for PS2 and Wii (if I ever get a Wii) though..

I highly doubt they'll ban modchips nationwide, though, as there's not explicitly illegal about them.

This kind of laws annoy me. Although They do have a legimate reason, if somewhat thin and broad, but they do have jurisdiction none the less. As people have mentioned earlier how many people dont use illegal programs on modded things? they almost certainly outnumber those who just use it for homebrew.

This is quite similar to Head Shops over here. Its legal for them to sell bongs, pipes, seeds + growing equipment and all other manner of pot paraphernalia. But how many of those things sold are used for illegal activity?

Oh, and I'm getting rather nervous, as my Xecuter hasn't been shipped, and all chips, for all consoles, on the site I ordered from are now out of stock. I sent them an inquiry, hoping mine was shipped (it was in stock when I ordered) before the raid.

This is exactly why if I had the chance I'd punch fat-Bill Clinton in the face for putting DMCA through in '98. That bastard pushed fair-use to the side for corporations. Basically making the FBI and other government agencies the bullies for Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo.

Hate to come across as a complete jerk, but if I was in the situation where they asked me (no warrant) for items like mod-chips, my computers and other things of the like I'd say, "Come back with a warrant signed by a judge!" It's stupid the crap they're taking now-a-days.

Thats why Benjamin Heckendorn should be presdent. So that law can be abolshied.

Last time I checked Ben was against piracy and modding hardware in order to bypass copyright protection.

In addition, unless something has changed, Congress writes the laws and the President merely signs them into law or vetoes them depending on the circumstances. So you can definitely pin the blame on more than one person's head for any given law we are subject to today in the US.

No offense to anybody in America, but my girlfriend just came back from 2 weeks of Florida, and she said that she did actually notice how many fat people are down there, even though she went in thinking she wouldn't notice. Canada is, apparently, less fast food oriented, more polite, and has far less guns. The cops and Toronto are the only people with guns!

Um how is that a good thing. Cops are just as corrupt as regular people, and criminals will have illegal ways of getting guns as long as guns exist. The law abiding citizens have no defense against a criminal unless a policeman is right there. I have a hefty collection of shotguns, rifles, and handguns, all of which I have a permit to use at any time. I go hunting with them, but I also keep them around for self defense, I never want to be caught having the lesser firepower to a criminal.

Just like bongs and the like aren't always for pot, even though 99% of people use them for such.
I don't want to sound like a hypocrite, being probably the biggest pirate on this forum, but the government really has no right banning modchips. Maybe the people that seized the modchip sellers's assets should search online for "xbox/ps2/psp/etc isos". I can name a few state-side pirating forums (psxhaven.com, wtalk.org), so its not a matter of Finnish or Norwegian servers being outside US jurisdiction (isohunt.com, thepiratebay.com).

I personally don't use modchips, I'm happy with 3.40 OE on my PSP.
And I think Canada would be a cool place to live/visit. Far better than mexico(what would y'all expect, I live in texas), but Germany would be my next choice.
