I had an idea, I'm 15 I live with my parents and we are currently going through the process of upgrading all our electronics and such also cleaning house and throwing away junk/big time.My parents have vcr's they throw away and such they even tryed to give a half brand new cyberhome dvd player to goodwill lol I grabbled that one.Even if I already have a ps3 ps2 and like 4 dvd players already, what can it hurt. So i was sitting in my room today thinking to myself Hmm what to do with all these electronics?(I have a whole bunch)Not junk,good stuff lol. well since we all know and realize how square and boxie dvd players are, I had a great idea. mod a dvd player with like a new case, aka case mod with leds,maybe even paint it with cool flames and such lol.
So starting tomorrow I am going to start hacking away at old dvd players and maybe vcr's players, for practice lol?And eventually get to the point when i will sell my super awesome modded dvd players that everyone will want lol"prolly not gonna happen" but for a thought movie based modded dvd players I will sell on ebay. like a harry potter dvd player,fully modded for harry even have a harry dvd lens for the authenticity lol
random*also maybe next week I will build my custom video game center for my room with a tetris shelf and such.
before I'm done I want you to imagine a dvd player that's clearwith blue led's in it.Or a dvd player with with a super tight paint job with glossy flames and such. When my project starts I'll post pictures, sorry moddies I didn't have a clue where to post this so I put it here............clear dvd case..sweet lol maybe even a carbon fiber one lol prolly not gonna happen i hate dealing with all that glue
Nice idea though man, be carefull with those things though, they do run off 240vAC, not nice if you stuff somthing up. Make sure you let the caps inside discarge / help them discharge, before you attept to work on the,.
I am interested to know how you intend to make a clear dvd player case, but wieder things have happened, so i bid thee good luck.

you wonder how? hmm let's see I'll buy very thick lexan perhaps,clear very adhesable with paint and can accept lot's of heat. Like the little rc cars with those lexan bodys with the little gas engine in them, and they have very thin bodies of lexan, so heat is not a problem with lexan. Only thing that will put a bump in the road is how I make it look. Simple as the dvd player is already built and is very easily replaced. almost no electronics and almost just one solid piece of inner guts lol
I opened up like 4 of em this morning all simple. And because I'm 15 don't think I can't mod, I am familiar with modding and have all...no all and more of the tools I need to do projects like this. My dad is in the buisness of cars and such and every tool I can dream of I can have lol

ok, lil help is there any third party sellers of weller soldering iron tips? or would it be easier to make my own out of brass. the wellers ones. SUCK.
considering I have used the tip for 4 years now, maybe I was wrong about it being a bad tip. But now it's starting to crack and metal is falling off of it in little pieces, not solder but the actual tip is turning to dust lol
