Ok, Xubuntu won't work on my brand new Compaq 1244; so I decided to use Slax. I was going to use DSL but their site is down or something.
Anyways, I got my laptop and the charger was messed up, by that I mean the plug; but I fixed that. So I booted up the alternate Xubuntu disk and installed it, but it said i cant boot because it couldn't find a file, whatever. I got Slax and booted that up, and it worked fine.(I think I'm just going to boot from the CD and store my data to a floppy, so I can use differant OSs)
Then the end of the charger broke off, so I soldered the other one on(they came in a two pack from radioshack) then tryed to boot it up again; here's where the trouble begins. The screen is white; I can here the disk spinning, like it's reading it, but the screen is blank white. Unless I adjust the contrast, then it's black.
So my question is: What's wrong? And how do I fix it?

Compaq Troubles...
Why is it that every time I post in a thread, it dies?

It's the video drivers. (I have a couple machines that do that.) Try another video mode (possibly framebuffer), or another distro.
