My Ubuntu Disks are in but scared of installing ubuntu

My Ubuntu disks are in. Two PC versions and One 64 bit PC version. But im afride to install the 64 bit version. I still want acess to windows xp. So how do i partion my Hard Drive so I can dual boot.

I would start first by backing up your information.
Then download GParted, its' a 50MB live-cd and works well, when I had to repartition to fit Windows in.
After you choose how much space you want for Ubuntu it will take awhile to have it repartition, took me two hours or so.
After that you can install Ubuntu to the empty partition.
After installation you might have to modify grub (your new MBR). That's simple, if you need help just ask I can tell you what you need, I can't right now I'm on Windows.

Why are they taped to your desk?
And doesn't the setup have an automatic partitioner thingy.

GParted is included in the ubuntu livecd. Go to System>Administration>GNOME partition editor.

Yea, it's just that if your filesystem for windows xp is ntfs, GParted may not be able to partition it for you (ntfs partitioning with GParted is a bit more like a coin flip). Should that happen, get a copy of PartitionMagic, that should do it.

Well I gotta say Linux is nice and speedy, I just put it on my pc along with Tiny XP.

What rev. of Tiny XP you running. I've got a full blown XP Pro going and well it's taking up too much of the 15GB I gave it to share with WoW, that and as I only need it for WoW and browsing something smaller would be good.

I might also mention that the partitioner that you guys mentioned I didn't get on my Ubuntu 7.04 CD, and yes it is an ordered CD. I went with a live-CD because it made things easier on me, namely because at the time I had no ability to connect to the internet (no wifi driver) so I couldn't download and install GParted, but I had downloaded the iso before hand.

Just get another hard drive and partition to that(as in Xp=C: and ubuntu=F: )

Unfortunately for me, my computer has a weird graphics card, I installed Ubuntu and never got it to boot again, the live cd worked because i put it in safe graphics mode, but couldn't figure out how to when it was installed, so I gave up and formated over the partitions.

I was using rev 5 and it treated me well. O and I just gotta say I messed up bad with my linux install today and that PC is so messed up lol.

How do i partion the hard drive into two partions during the Ubuntu Install. I realy still want to use Good ol windows. And yes im noob when it comes to this stuff.
