WTF gametrailers.com

I need some help here. Gametrailers.com just ruined my bros pc.

Heres what happened.
I went to the site, and tried to watch the GT5 video.

Upon clicking the link to the video, my computer started acting weird.

The bottom half of the screen went black, and the screen started shaking. Then after 2 mins, everything went to VGA 16 colors.

So I rebooted my pc and now I get an error that says:

Windows could not start up because the following file or folder is corrupt or missing.

/windows/system32/config/system

Can any one help me fix this?

Also, cant I get gametrailers.com in trouble for this?

No, it sounds like your video drivers kicked the bucket. Try a repair install.

No, it's not gametrailers.com's fault at all. It seems as if your life is bent on getting larger companies in debt. Jealousy, perhaps?

Pop in your operating system's disk and repair from there.

I tried. It just brings me back to the same screen. Is there a button combo that I have to press?

Also, skyone for all you know it could be gametrailers fault.

Somewhat hard to believe it was a coincidence.

I guess it was a strange coincidence that at the exact moment that I clicked the link, my computer "died".

Putting in my xp disk does nothing. Is there a certain button combo that I have to press?

Did you restart with the disc in and the boot order set to CD first?

I wouldn't say coincidence. If anything, it's Flash's fault. There's no way gametrailers could have touched your drivers.

Just give it up HotDog. You know deep down inside it was your computers own damn fault. If you send an Email or try and contact gametrailers thats absolutely crazy.

The fact the graphics went crazy when you were using the internet, will not be DirectX driver faults. From what you describe, your video card just died. I am sure you, or a friend, has another graphics card lying about doing nothing; replace the old card with a different card and you should be flying again. They do fail eventually...

His video card didn't die, it's still working to tell him that a driver was corrupt, right? Thus proving it's a software problem.

Just get yourself into some control of the hard drive. Once you get to the recovery console, perform a chkdsk. Type in chkdsk /p and hit enter. It should try to repair the system. Try to boot normally now. If that doesn't work, try to access the system restore folder from the console.

Skyone, your not explaining anything.

I put my windows disk in and brings me to the same error screen.

Everytime I boot, I get the same error.

What do I do to fix this?

Also I fail to see how "/windows/system32/config/system/" is a video card driver. Heck, if my videocard driver died wouldnt my pc run from VGA 16bit?

When my video driver went in my ibm thinkpad, I never got this error.

Try F8 as you boot, then choose "boot from disk"...

Thanks man, but theres no "boot from disk" option when I press f8.

When the bios screen comes up, quickly press the hotkey to get into the setup utility. (Usually it's DEL, F1, or something like that. Quickly press Pause|Break to pause the machine at the POST to get a better look at what it is.) Then navigate through the menus to find the boot order setting. Set it like this:

1. CD/DVD drive
2. USB
3. Floppy (if you have one)
4. Hard Drive
5. PXE/LAN boot (if your motherboard supports it.)

Now reboot with the Windows CD in the disc drive and you should see a "press any key to boot from CD ..." prompt. Press any key (the space bar is the any key), then do a repair install.

Somewhere between your video drivers, Flash, and Direct X your computer got confused and corrupted its video settings. A repair install should fix it.
