Logitech x-540 speaker issues.

I recently (15 min ago) bought a new set of x-540 speakers, plugged them in, and they have developed a very annoying hum, like a low bass noise.

Are these faulty, or what?

I have a pair of speakers also. Theyre not logitech, but they make a low hum. I just either turn them off when not in use, or just listen to music.

Check under Volume Control by right-clicking the speaker at the taskbar and selecting 'Volume Control'. Goto Options->Properties, then check all the checkboxes, specifically the 'PC Speaker' checkbox. click OK, then Mute the control for 'PC Speaker'. That's what got rid of the low hum for me.

Its even when they are turned off, at the switch on them.

Probably a grounding problem with the sound card. A similar thing used to happen to me, using a real 3 prong outlet rather than a 2->3 prong adapter seemed to help.

The speaker system is not grounded in any way, niether it seems is the laptop its running form. Could this be the issue?

I think that would be it... I took a guitar cord and chopped off an end and then I soldered a mic end to it. I plugged it in my desktop, and it worked, but then I tried my laptop, and it was a no go...

That almost sounds like the 60 cycle hum that plagues ungrounded turntables.

Have you tried plugging it in through a surge protector? I think those help filter out excessive line noise (or you can buy something that can).

Thanks a lot bic! Got it off the surge protecter board, and onto at emi and other stuff filter board, no more hum. Thanks! You saved my speakers!
