a radica sega gen. or a gen 2 from sega. GO with the rad, its smaller and more of a build. they are about 30 CND and you just need 4 AA battrys and a pocket tv screen (a 2" hip gear, with the same 4 AA psu) and your going to need to check bens download page for a pin out so you can put the cartrage slot on.

Yeah, the Radica is nice for most people's uses. It has some issues, but they're relatively minor, in most cases. Get a Radica/Sega Toys one for your region for best compatibility (PAL ones will be better at playing PAL games, NTSC for NTSC games, etc). The Genesis 3 or a bootleg Genesis would also work pretty well. My bootleg Genesis boasts nearly perfect compatibility and it's half the size of the Genesis 3 internally.

I have made two Genesis portables both using a v2 genesis.
The good thing about using the v2 genesis is it has full compatibility. The downside to using a v2 is it's kinda big....
It's really easy to make a Gp, just wire buttons to a controller board, wire the battery case, and slap a a screen on it.
