phpBB update
I'm going to take a crack at updating the forums today, so if there's some downtime or outages that's what's up.

Are you updating to phpBB 2.0.22 or 3? (phpBB 3 has lots of new features but it's still in the release candidate stage... You might want to wait a while until it's been on production installations elsewhere and they fix any gaping security holes that may still be in it.)
Either way, a full database backup couldn't hurt, especially if it hasn't been done in a while.

OK we're now on 2.0.22. Yeah, 3 is a bit of a leap, screw that.
I finally canceled the new server since it was taking FOREVER to get it set up. So now I'm just updating things here that I was planning to do on the new machine.
This site hasn't been too slow lately anyway, at least from what I've seen.

Make sure that the forum address you're looking into (first time) isn't http://www.benheck.com/phpBB/index.php. If it is, just be sure to change it, simply remove the "www". If that's the cause I've done it before, and it's simple human error.vskid wrote:I don't know if its just me, but it takes me two tries to log in, so all the unread posts are removed, so I have to look at the times to see whats new. Kind of annoying.

Nothing, just an antiquated subdomain that was going to be used in a internet wide naming scheme that never took off.
Well...suppose saying it's antiquated and never took off might not be entirely accurate, plenty of servers use the naming scheme (like ftp.domain, irc.domain, etc), but since the www is almost always the main use of the domain, it's left off as a given I guess

Same, I have to log in twice before I'm actually signed in. If I close the page and then come back later, it also doesn't keep me signed in, even if I choose the option when signing in for the first time.vskid wrote:I don't know if its just me, but it takes me two tries to log in, so all the unread posts are removed, so I have to look at the times to see whats new.
