Super Famicomp (Proposed Snes Laptop)

For a while I've been toying with the idea of a Snes laptop, and finally decided to build it. I have run into a problem, however. Since it will be a laptop rather than a hand held, I want a screen larger than the one for the Playstation. Does anyone have an idea of a screen I could use?

Also, would I be correct in assuming that I could just pull the console's innards out without modification, pop them in the case and attach them to a power supply? Or would there be some fiddling around to do?

On the power supply front, I'm thinking of using the rechargeable battery packs that are like AA's wrapped in plastic with a wire coming from them. Is this a good idea?

For the case design, I'm thinking Plexiglass with SFC decals applied.

And finally, SNES or Mini SNES? Would it matter in this case?

Mini would be be smaller, welcome to the forums!

You could also use a fc twin if you wanted to be small enough to use a psone lcd!

Check out ebay. There are loads of 7" screens you can use. Just make sure it has the proper input. For the SNES, I'd probably get an FC Twin. It'd require a little more work, but you could have more room for other stuff then. Yeah, it probably would be cheeper and easier to use a larger original SNES. However, you will probably have to relocate the cartridge slot either way as it is top-loading. For batteries, I'd recommend just getting a few 2x AA holders for Radio Shack. That would be allot easier to manage. Anywho, good luck!

Thanks guys! I'll probably start working soon, though I have been pondering about the sort of hinges to use on the screen. I may scrap the laptop idea though. It seems to be more trouble than it's worth. I'll probably come up with a better, less labor intensive idea. Or at least one that's flashy enough to justify.

Well, if you were to pursue a laptop-style case, I'd suggest using something more along the lines of RC car batteries, or perhaps li-ion rather than AA batteries. Using a larger screen would require something with more oomph to it than AA batteries would provide.

Yes you could quite possibly put an unmodified SNES into a case if it's big enough, but where's the fun in that?

With lipoly batteries, you need to make sure that you don't discharge them too far (otherwise they'll melt), which will require some kind of auto shut-off circuit. You'll also need a special lipoly charger that has peak detection so it won't over charge the batteries. Lipoly batteries will explode or catch on fire if you over charge them.

Are those a good choice? It'll be powering a SNES and a 10 inch LCD TV.
Will I need a charger for those as well?

I haven't a clue where to buy an LCD like that though. Anyone know?

Found a screen and batteries. It's just a matter of getting everything and figuring out how to put them together.
