Sorry for having two posts on the front page, but within 8 hours, I have made amazing strides. After seeing the awesome GCNp's on the site, I have decided to make my own. I am no where near ready, and I don't have the tools, but I am taking it one step at a time. I will update at least daily, hopefully more (if important).
My first small list of Q&A's is as follows:
Is it better to keep a)heatsink and fan b)heatsink c)fan d)modded fan e)modded heatsink f)other?
^I was thinking of some sort of heatpipe or liquid cooling, but I can't think of how to get it to work.
Can you snap off the ports on the boards (i.e. broadband adapter)?
^I can get a de-soldering iron if it would be easier (will it work?).
How can you remove memory card ports and how can you reposition them?
^I was thinking that you just de-solder them and move them.
Is it best to a)leave disk drive on platform b)set on plastic c)make custom mount d)other?
^I think I can save some space by taking it out of the platform and just mounting it to the case I make.
Can I make a vacuum former by cutting a hole in a table, putting a shop vac to the hole, placing a plaster mold above, and putting a sheet of the recommended material over it and turning the vac on?
I would appreciate all help I can get, and I will try to move as quickly as possible through my construction.

I will desolder the ports, but I need to find out how first.
I will be searching on how to desolder today as well.
I know how to vacuum form now.
Next question (in great detail):
Should I keep the disk/DVD drive on the plastic and metal platform that it is made in or should I take the DVD drive out of the plastic and metal enclosure? When you dismantle the cube, the drive sits on a plastic tray and a metal piece sits under that. Should I keep it on this or take it off of the plastic tray?

I have everything dismantled and I am working on some plans now. I just need some feedback on this:
^Is that small edge needed? I am thinking of gluing or taping the two halves together w/o the edge.
^Which of the ports on the bottom do I need? I don't think I need any I mean one is broadband, one is random stuff, and one if for extensions.
^See the black plastic on the right at the top? Should I file that off or leave it to mount?
^What are these little lever-like things are for? I'm not going to touch it, but these are in like three places in the cube.
^Is there any way to remove this from the bottom and move it elsewhere? Like with a ribbon, etc.
^Should I solder the wavebird receiver to the back of the PCB? It will take up about the same space either way. Also, could/should I remove the other two controller ports? I'd only desolder and cut the plastic connecting all 4...will the system still work then?

I have removed the unneeded ports from the bottom of the second board.
I have removed the disk drive from the large plastic encasing.
Questions:
Can I cut the plastic and remove two of the four controller ports?

That is exactly why you don't rip stuff off of electronics. You should have desoldered them.
Anyway, to try and fix it, try:
-Removing the leftovers from the ports completely. (I still see little pins sticking out... they could be causing a short)
-Check the mobo for any shorts caused by a stray pin from your ripping escapade.

In your thread (http://benheck.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=19846) , the images show that the pins from the ext. ports are touching, i dont know if the would affect it but i suggest cleaning it up a bit by removing the pins that are just bent down. I hope you know what i'm talking about as usually i'm not very well at explaining things. Cheers^_^
