The Zune has a Toshiba hard drive that's similar to the iPod's, so then wouldn't "the slightest bump" kill it, too?

Here's my general opinion:

Zune:
+ Screen size
+ FM Radio
- Screen pixel density / size
- Smaller install base
- No PlaysForSure compatability
- Unit size
Bottom line: A decent player, but I'm not crazy about it.

Full-size iPod:
+ Wide variety of accessories
+ iTunes store
+ Higher screen pixel density
+ More online media is pre-encoded for it.
- Scratches relatively easily
- Unit size
Bottom line: You can't treat it like a Gameboy, but it's not as crap as everyone says it is.

iPod Nano:
+ Small enough that you want to take it with you, but not too small
+ Long battery life
+ Flash memory
- No video playback
- Screen size isn't really that great for anything but browsing music
- Flash memory costs more per MB than a hard drive
Bottom line: I recommend this, as long as you don't mind not having video playback.

Yes, but as bicostp said, the Zune has a harddrive too, so they're even in that regard.

I had a mini for a years and a half, after which I gave it to my dad, who has had it for 9 months, and it's still in excellent condition, even after being dropped onto asphalt/concrete a couple times. Same thing with my new iPod, which I got 9 months ago. I used both of them heavily carrying them around, putting them in backpacks with other things bouncing around with them, etc. No problems. So please, tell me what you guys do differently that causes your iPods to last for only a year.
Well, first of all, have you ever heard of faulty equipment? :P
My iPod has been fine but it's just scratched up. The metal will scratch even if you breathe on it.
Yes I've heard of faulty equipment, I just find it odd that only the iPod-haters here have used faulty iPods though. And if your iPod is defective, you can take it to an Apple store and have them fix it (as long as the warranty is still good). If you live near an Apple store, that's a hell of a lot better than if your Zune breaks and you have to ship it back to Microsoft.

See look they're everywhere! Anyway, my comment was just for those who have an Apple store nearby, that it's more convenient to have an iPod than a Zune, should something go wrong. In my opinion, customer support is an important part of buying bigger-ticket items. Again though, that's just me.

I suppose it's possible, I'd never heard anything about this though. Eh, oh well. I just won't drop my iPod.

I live in Michigan and well it's not close (30-40 minute drive) I can get to an Apple store.
