I really don't get the confusion here, this isn't a hard thing to do! If you know how to put new strings on a guitar, then do that, but just string them in the opposite order. So if you're holding it like a lefty should, the low E string is on top. Make sense?

If you want it to feel natural to play, you'll need to flip over the nut and fiddle with the bridge so the strings are spaced properly.

Re-stringing the acoustic shouldnt be a problem. Most acoustics are fairly symetrical, qlthough if it has a cut away it will be on the wrong side which would be annoying.

Re-stringing from right to left on an electric is harder, usually because the bodies are weighted slightly, so they feel comfortable from the right. Which is much harder to correct

Jimi Hendrix always used a right handed guitar flipped upside down, and he's left handed.

You'll need to buy a new pack of strings. Take the old ones off. Put the low E (the thickest string) where the high E (the thinnest) use to be. Basically you just need to put all the strings on "upside down", if you will, from the way they used to be. I won't tell you how to put strings on, there's plenty of guides on the internet. Finally, you will have to adjust the intonation. I won't tell you how to do that either because there's already enough guides. You may also want to cut the nut slots for the wound strings bigger, but this can be dangerous to the guitar and I don't think it's necessary seeing how I use heavy strings that don't sit in the nut slot but I still get good tone. If you don't feel comfortable doing this, take it to a guitar shop. They can do it for you (for a fee of course)

I don't recomend doing this on an acoustic, actually. You should only do it on an electric because on an acoustic you can't change the intonation. That means that the notes will not be the correct pitch as you go up the neck. On the other hand, if your a beginner you probably won't notice, and it won't be a big deal if your not playing past the 12th fret.

An acoustic Guitar would not be good to simply flip over and string backwards. The bridge is set up in a certain direction which stops string buzz (height-wise) as well as intonation (length-wise), I believe. Electric guitars have adjustable bridges, so you could re-adjust it.

Jimi Hendrix simply restrung his guitar. The problem with intonation etc. creates his "unique sound".

No, i'm pretty sure he readjusted his bridge. It was the opposite angle of the Strat's bridge pickup and length of the strings from the nut to the tuners that gave his guitar the character it had.

Also,is anyone over here left handed and/or play the guitar?

I am left-handed, but I learned to play guitar right-handed.

If your right hand really hurts after playing, chances are you are doing something wrong, like keeping your wrist bent at a strange angle or something. Make sure that you're holding your guitar at a comfortable height where you can keep your wrists more-or-less straight while playing. If you're hurting your right hand playing this way, chances are that you'll just hurt your left hand on a left-handed guitar.

But I agree with the above posters who recommend flipping the nut and re-stringing, then adjusting the intonation on the bridge. I would not recommend doing this with your acoustic, but it might be fun to experiment for a few minutes next time it's time to change your strings.
