Old PSU uses

I have a bunch of computers going to waste and thought i should make them into a cluster? Other than the experience would there be a practical reason for me to do this?

Nope. If you're running something like an internet browser, the network connection between the computers is so much slower than the rest of the setup that the speed difference will be small for how many computers you have hooked up. If you do something like folding@home, it'll help with that or rendering frames for a movie (like Pixar quality, takes-a-couple-days-per-frame-on-a-supercomputer good).

trust me there not good enough. They are all old 95s probably around 100mhz.

After checking the computers (which I haven't paid much attention to since i got them) it turns out all their parts are mixed up or missing. I'm just going to pick a case and power supply and scrap what parts there are. maybe make a Frankenstein computer to run Linux.

I guess i'll change the topic instead of cluttering the forum. But if you do want to add something to the original topic please do.

Frankencomputers are fun, I would always swap my biggest ram sticks into the fastest computer I had, but Dells retarded PSU might have killed them all (I had to get rid of my others, so I can't test the ram). I'm more into old laptops, because my thrift store doesn't part them out like they do desktops.

You can turn the PSU into a bench PSU, so you'll have easy power when testing stuff. Google it, theres several guides on instructables.

At the power you're talking about it would only be a good experience. I don't think you'd have enough to even see if iTunes, DVDshrink or any other program that can take advantage of all those CPUs. I can't say this 100%, because I think ClusterKnoppix likely has programs that can be used on a cluster.
