Who cares? Rumble is sooo last decade. And it's not like it will make Sony a better company or the games any less sucky.

LOL, too true. Why have rumble if no one has a PS3 anyways?

I never turn rumble on any way, A: it hurts my hands (I crash, allot...), B: it eats the batteries in wireless controllers.

*BUZZER* Wrong! Immersion owns the patents to the off-balance motor. They sued Microsoft and Sony, but only Microsoft paid them off (they pay everyone off anyway).
as delightful as that response was to read, you are very correct that the latest bout of lawsuits did not involve nintendo. However I still believe the rumble pak predates the immersion patent.

I think they used a technology that was different enough to get around it, or they copyrighted it in Japan while Immersion didn't or something like that.

I don't think they had to get around it. this page links immersion's patents to 2000-2001. this site seems to indicate that nintendo's initial rumble patent was 1996. I think nintendo just wrote their patent a bit too narrowly, rather than broad strokes like immersion, in hopes of catching a lawsuit. Though some sites out there are even saying nintendo's paying immersion now, even with their own preexisting technology, including rumbling carts and a few rumbling attachments.

immersion's patents seem to cover just about everything. I doubt I could design a bicycle without infringing on something in there.

Its a freaking motor with an unbalanced weight, how can you patent that? Its like patenting having laces to tie shoes. Sometimes patents are a bunch of BS that slows progress, you don't have to own every little thing.

What ever happened to "Rumble isnt in the Ps3 controller, as it interfers with the six axis"?

I clearly remember a sony rep saying something like that when the ps3 was announced or what ever.

Looks like Sony is wanting to out do the Wii again. By adding rumble to their controlers. Remember guys the wii-mote has rumble you know.

Last time I checked about 90% of the controllers since the N64 have had rumble. Not exactly a groundbreaking development.

I say that it is about time they put it back in. Both of their competitors have it, so why shouldn't they as well?

sorry, you'll have to wait until next spring for that one, once sony realizes rumble really won't sell any more ps3's, you can expect the 'playstation wand controller' to come out with optical tracking, gyro, rumble and speaker. I'm sure it will be white too.

Nintendo avoided the Immersion lawsuit with the GCN because its controller only has one motor, as opposed to the dual-motor setup that the XBOX and PS1-2 controllers had. Immersion had the patent placed on the two motor setup. etc
"The Nintendo stradegy will work everywhere except in America where most people dont give things a chance."

Time may prove the quoter wrong. =)
