I got up this morning and really felt like the classic Canadian (at least Classic Ontario/Quebec-ian) meal for breakfast: Pancakes (the ones the size of a pan, not the wimpy 3" just-add-water recipes) and bacon, smothered in maple syrup. I did not, however, feel like orange juice with that.

What kind of food/meals is your area of America/Country known for? What do you have that nobody else has?

Also, thinking back to that wild mongoose thread (

), it seems strange to think about any animals living near people other than the local ones near me. Here's the more common animals in my survey, and a few not-so-common:

Fox: Rarely seen, apparently they have some disease this year that makes all their fur fall off. Scabies? Perhaps a sighting of a live or dead one once every year.

Downy Woodpecker: There are other kinds of woodpeckers, but none so common as this one. We have a family living in a tree behind our house. Apparently our porch isn't doing too well bug-wise. Uncommon, until they moved in behind us.

Deer: Too many of these. There was actually a deer hunt to cut down on their population not too long ago. They eat all the flowers.

Rabbits: Rather common as well, also eat all the flowers, AND fruits.

Chipmunks, Red/Black Squirrels: Very common. Enough said.

I'm too lazy to find out what we have and what others don't, but for foods check out http://www.padutchcountry.com/ I must say, if you are ever in the area you need to goto a Smorgasbord (All you can Eat Buffet with Dutch/Amish Foods) I know shoofly pie is like a local food, and so are Whoopie Pies.

We have lots of Rabbits and Squirrels around our area...and theres like an Amish Farm like every mile so there is a lot of Cows

Like 15% population in my area is Amish btw.

I usually just eat cereal for breakfast. One time, a HUGE possum walked up to my back door and tryed to get inside. My cat was freaking out

Well all I can think of is that thin crust pizza seems very popular here on the East Coast (USA).

Also I have heard that Cape Cod brand potato chips are apparently not available in some parts of the country, which is unfortunate since the pretty much beat every other brand out there hands down.

As for animals, every thing on kurt's list, plus possums (our dog catches them occasionally), coyotes, and lots of skunks. Although our squirrels are all grey in color.

Strangest meat: Buffalo burgers and sometimes Nutria. Not for me though, I'll stick with beef thank you very much.

Common local stuff: Green chile burgers, green chile breakfast tacos, etc. Southwest all the way.

Oh yeah, that reminds me: pizza, apparently, is a big thing around here too. I'd gladly give up our good pizza, though, for never having to hear another former New Yorker b*tch about how there's no good pizza where they live.

I just figured something out, I can answer both questions with the same answer

rabbit, squirrel, possum, raccoon, beaver, deer, duck, marmots (look em up)( its kinda like a ground-hog with a tail), goose, dove, snakes, frogs, turtles,

all these critters live around here, all these critters can be et, and I et all these critters

Now that I have gotten my redneck out, the best breakfast in the world is fried squirrel, biscuits and gravy
